Topping Out
The tower is finished. The reckoning is not.
In spring, a tree is tied to the top of the steel, and the Mercier tower finally stands tall enough to call itself finished. But the ceremony also marks the start of a search under warrant, and the building still holds everything accepted, hidden and buried since the first pour.
Eddie Keane tries to keep his crew out of the headlines, to keep architect Lena Varga from becoming part of the story, and to refuse one more Friday of dirty cash. Frank Calabro collects what remains of loyalty. Prosecutor Ruiz decides how much to take. At home, Marie is still waiting for a limit she can verify.
Topping Out closes the RED IRON series. The structure is standing, the job is not yet done, and Eddie learns that bought time is not the same as absolution.
